Jesus told Nicodemus that to see the kingdom of God, “you must be born again”.

What does that mean?

First, you have to realize that there is a God that created all things.  You are His prime creation and He loves you more than anyone ever has.

Psalm 139:14

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

As our creator, He wants us to love Him and be with Him.  However, He is holy, and we are not.  Adam and Eve introduced sin into the world, so then every person that followed was born into sin.

Because God is holy, He will not allow sin to come into His presence.  That is because sin is against His nature.

That bible tells us that:

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

That means that all of us are in the same boat.  We are sinners separated from God.  You might think that you are a pretty good person.  But have you ever told a lie?  Lusted after someone?  Stolen even one penny or a piece of candy?  All sin counts against us and it only takes ONE to make us guilty.

But it gets worse.

Romans 6:23a For the wages of sin is death;

There is a price to pay for our sin.  God demands that blood be shed to pay the debt.  We owe the debt because we are guilty.

There is good news.  The second part of the verse says:

but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

And in John 3:16 the Bible tells us what God did to cover our sin debt.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

So then how does a person receive forgiveness for sin and become “saved”, or as Jesus said “born again”?

First we admit what the Bible says.  I am a sinner.  Separated from God.

Second, we Believe that Jesus is God’s son and that He died and rose again to pay for our debt.

Romans 10 tells us how the belief works.

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

It is in our heart we believe.

That means it is more than usual belief.  It means we “accept” what the Bible says and we “believe” that Jesus is Lord.

We confess with our mouths Jesus as Lord.

This is tricky.

Lord means “the one who is in control”.

So what we are doing when we declare Jesus as “Lord”, is we are putting Him in control of our lives.

This is why we say “I asked Jesus into my heart”.

So what will happen if you

ADMIT you are a sinner like the Bible says,

And BELIEVE that Jesus is the son of God, and you

CONFESS Jesus as your Lord?

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

There is a great picture of what is happening right now, if you have never asked Jesus to be your Lord.  It is the words of Jesus recorded in Revelation 3:20.  He says:

20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Jesus will save any person that will do what the Bible says.

He is delighted to save the lost.  It is His will that no one would perish but that everyone would come to repentance.

It isn’t about how good or bad you are, it is about how good Jesus is.

He loves you and wants to save you from the debt of sin.

Will you pray right now and ask Him to be your Lord?

You will be glad you did.

Salvation is the greatest expression of love from God to man.
